Finally the day has come when Windows 10 is being delivered to public for download and free upgrade from Windows 7 and 8.1 operating systems.

Windows 10 Now Available for Download and Free Upgrade

If you are using genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 OS in your computer, you'll be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. The free upgrade will be done with the help of a small app "Get Windows 10" which sits in Taskbar notification area. It'll automatically download Windows 10 setup files on your computer and will notify you once the download completes. After that you can install Windows 10 in your computer.

Things You Should Know and Do Before Upgrading to Windows 10

But there are many users who don't have "Get Windows 10" app in their computers. To fix the issue, we have posted a troubleshooting guide at following link:

But if you still can't see the app and its icon, then you'll be unable to take advantage of free Windows 10 upgrade offer. Fortunately, Microsoft has released a Media Creation Tool to download Windows 10 setup ISO files as well as to create installation media such as bootable USB drive or DVD.

This tool will help you in downloading the correct Windows 10 edition and type such as 32-bit or64-bit.

After downloading the setup files of Windows 10 using this tool, you can upgrade your existing OS to Windows 10 or you can create bootable USB drive or DVD to install Windows 10 later. You can also save the setup files in offline ISO file format if you wish.

Once you create installation media or save ISO file, you can use them to install Windows 10 in other computers as well.

NOTE: If you upgrade your existing Windows 7/8.1 to Windows 10 using this tool, then you can use the bootable USB drive or DVD or ISO created by this tool to perform clean installation of Windows 10. But if you don't upgrade existing OS to Windows 10 and try to direct install Windows 10 using bootable USB drive or DVD, it'll ask for Windows 10 product key which you'll not have obviously.

So first upgrade your existing Windows 7/8.1 to Windows 10 so that it can be successfully activated by Microsoft servers. After that you can perform a clean installation. If you do this, product key will still be asked at installation time but you can skip the key and Windows will be automatically activated by Microsoft after installation.

  This is very dangerous to download using this tool, if the connection get interrupted at 99.99% i will get a heart attack. because the download will be aborted and 4gb will be wasted and again i will be forced to start the download from begining and the same thing will repeat forever.

  No key is needed if having preinstalled Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. It will detect your key from motherboard if your machine came from preinstalled Windows. Preinstalled Windows 8 user can directly perform clean installation from ISO.

  The Media Creation Tool is yet another Microsoft Joke - methinks you people do it on purpose.
  Easy to make something that doesn't work - how about something that actually works or will we have to wait until the first SP1??

  This tool is not upgrading Windows and closing with "SOMETHING HAPPENED" message, whenever I have tried to upgrade through first option "Upgrade this PC now".

  When I started to upgrading from Win 8.1 Pro 64bit to Win 10, after copyng files and started installation of drivers and features, setup process stucking at 48%. After restarting, Bios detecting of hard disc for that installation, disappear. After manually restarting and started again without other HDD, everything start normaly, but after that, setup process started restoring previosly version of Windows and after that show setup window with this error:"0xC190010 - 0x3000D The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during migrate data operation."

  According to the Microsoft, when I upgrade a preinstalled (OEM) or retail version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 license to Windows 10, does that license remain OEM or become a retail license?
  If you upgrade from a OEM or retail version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 to the free Windows 10 upgrade this summer, the license is consumed into it. Because the free upgrade is derived from the base qualifying license, Windows 10 will carry that licensing too.
  If you upgrade from a retail version, it carries the rights of a retail version.
  If you upgrade from a OEM version, it carries the rights of a OEM version.
  Full version (Retail):
  - Includes transfer rights to another computer.
  - Doesn't require a previous qualifying version of Windows.

  What happens if I change my motherboard?
  As it pertains to the OEM licenses this will invalidate the Windows 10 upgrade license because it will no longer have a previous base qualifying license which is required for the free upgrade. You will then have to purchase a full retail Windows 10 license. If the base qualifying license (Windows 7 or Windows 8.1) was a full retail version, then yes, you can transfer it.

  can u please tell me whether my windows 10 will get activated if I use iso image of windows 10 and directly run it from my registered windows 8.1 update 1 please tell me the procedure step by step.

  ^^ Yes. If you upgrade from Windows 8.1 using ISO, Windows 10 will be activated. When you run the setup.exe file, select upgrade option. Thats it.
